Clean up on Chemicals - Media releaseLast modified: March 14, 2008 - 5:00 PM
Port Stephens Council, in conjunction with the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change, is offering ‘CleanOut’ - a free service to encourage the return and recycling of unwanted household chemicals. To help ensure its success, all those who participate in CleanOut on Saturday 15 March go into the draw to receive $500, courtesy of Port Stephens Council! Speaking today, Waste Minimisation Officer Cathy Seberry said CleanOut provided a great way to dispose of all of those unwanted household chemicals. “I’m sure all of us have some old paint, poisons and solvents lying around the house,” she said. “These chemicals can be harmful to humans and detrimental to the environment if not disposed of properly.” “CleanOut will take all of those worries away and give you a chance to win $500 to boot – it’s a great initiative whichever way you look at it.” Substances which are included as part of this programme include unwanted or unused paint, paint related products, pesticides, herbicides, poisons, solvents and household cleaners, motor oils, fuels, batteries, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, pool or hobby chemicals and fluorescent tubes.
The Chemical CleanOut collection will be held on Saturday 15 March between 9am and 3.30pm at Port Stephens Council Administration Building car park, entry via Adelaide St, Raymond Terrace. Contact details |
