Port Stephens Bangs The Table - Media ReleaseLast modified: February 25, 2008 - 12:10 AM
Port Stephens Council has adopted a new and innovative approach to community consultation with the launch of internet based discussion forum www.bangthetable.com Council will utilise the tool as part of community consultation process regarding its Port Stephens Foreshore Management Plan which will goes on public exhibition from today, 25 February. The Bang the Table technology is a new tool that allows community members to engage in collaborative learning, discussion, and debate. Port Stephens General Manager Peter Gesling said the forum would allow more people to have a say. “The internet is a convenient way for some people who don’t have a lot of time or who don’t want to make a more formal submission to Council,” he said. “The 2006 Census found that over 58% of Port Stephens households have internet access so we saw this as an ideal way to engage with a broader section of the community.” “We certainly encourage as many people as possible to log onto the site to make their views known. It is free and simple to use and your anonymity will be protected.” The Foreshore management plan provides a coordinated strategy for more than 250km of foreshore across both Port Stephens and Great Lakes local government areas. It will be available in hard copy at Council Chambers, libraries and the Nelson Bay Visitors Centre. Formal written submissions are invited and should be sent to the Environmental Services Manager at Port Stephens Council. Contact details |
