Surf science comes to Port Stephens - Media ReleaseLast modified: November 4, 2009 - 8:50 AM
One of the country’s leading experts on Environmental Science, Dr Rob Brander will make his renowned ‘Science of the Surf’ presentations at the Salamander Library and Community Centre this Friday, 18 February at 7.00pm. Science of the Surf has won several awards nationally and has been seen on Catalyst, The 7.30 Report and A Current Affair. Dr Brander is Senior Lecturer in the School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of NSW and has been studying beaches and surf zones for 20 years both in Canada and Australia. His presentations, which are in high demand, provide an understanding of the way beaches, rip currents and waves work in their natural environment. Speaking today, Port Stephens Environmental Services Manager Bruce Peterson said the talk provided "a strong message“. Apart from entertainment, Dr Brander’s talk provides anyone who shares the beach with important information on safety. Swimmers, surfers, parents and other beachgoers will find the information invaluable and have a great time as well.
”The Presentation is part of the Coastcare Summer Festival being jointly run by Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens Councils.
