Last modified: September 17, 2009 - 12:55 AM
Port Stephens Council is holding the region’s first Cultural Forum this September to finalise the Council’s draft cultural plan and establish a cultural network.
Commencing on Friday 25 September at the Murrook Centre Williamtown, the forum will feature guest speakers from Council, local businesses and Newcastle’s Octopod Association as well as performances by local artists.
Speaking today Community Planner Chloe Beevers said the forum was open to anyone involved with culture and the arts in Port Stephens.
"This forum is about creating a future for Port Stephens as a cultural place," she said.
"We want to align our collective effort toward addressing identified cultural priorities," Ms Beevers said.
"The aim is to do this through building community partnerships and working together," she continued.
As well as finalising the draft cultural plan, the forum will include workshops on employment opportunities through cultural tourism and the creative industries.
"It will also be a great networking opportunity for community groups and local artists in the area," she continued.
