Star Wallaby to speak at Sports Star Awards - media release

Today, Port Stephens Council is proud to announce World Champion Wallabies Hooker and TV personality Phil Kearns as guest speaker at the 2009 Port Stephens Sports Star Awards.
The awards night, to be held on Thursday 5 November, recognises local sporting heroes and people who make a significant contribution to sport in Port Stephens.
Speaking today, Sports Facility Coordinator Catherine Tait said securing Mr Kearns for the annual event was a real coup for Council.
"The sports star awards not only recognises talented athletes but also acknowledges the administrators, coaches and officials who are involved in the promotion of sport," she said.
"Without these dedicated people, young athletes would never be given the chance to reach the potential of sporting greats like Phil Kearns."
As a key member of the World Champion Wallabies, Phil Kearns was universally acknowledged as the world's best Hooker.
He Played 67 test matches for Australia and captained the Wallabies on 10 occasions.
Nominations for the sports star awards close 30 September 2009.
All proceeds from the evening go towards the Sports Star Junior Development Scheme.
