Media Release - Win A holiday with Local Government Week

Port Stephens Council will celebrate Local Government (LG) Week 3 to 9 August 2009 by giving the community a chance to win a weekend away.

Every person over 18 years of age who attends a LG Week event goes in the draw to win a holiday package at the Council owned Samurai Beach Resort.

Port Stephens Mayor Cr Bruce MacKenzie is encouraging everyone to get involved with LG Week.

"We have a whole host of activities lined up showcasing the diverse services Council provides and everyone who attends goes in the draw to win," he said.

"So come on and get involved with your Council this week, you’ve got nothing to lose and a holiday to win," he continued.

Entry forms will be available to participants at the following Local Government Week events:

Monday 3 August10 – 1.30pm - Youth debate. Four high schools will debate each other and then combine their powers to debate the Mayor and Councillors.

Where: Council Chambers, 116 Adelaide St, Raymond Terrace

2 – 4.00pm – ‘Waste as Art’ exhibition opening. Discover how one person’s trash can be another’s treasured artwork. Performances by Port Stephens Community Choir

Where: Mezzanine Art Gallery, 116 Adelaide St, Raymond TerraceWednesday 5 August

12.30 – 3.00pm - Tree Planting Day at Samurai Beach Resort.

Anna Bay Public School will plant hundreds of native trees to enhance the Koala habitat around the resort.

Where: Samurai Beach Resort, 562 Gan Gan Road, One Mile Beach Thursday 6 August

Free Council workshops.

10.30am – Traffic and transport workshop

11.00am – Development and building workshop

11.30am –Parks and recreation workshop

12.00pm – Community infrastructure workshop

9 – 12.00pm – E-Waste Collection Day. Drop off your LD computers, laptops, microwaves ovens, stereos etc for free at Council’s Car Park.

11 – 12.30pm – Sustainable living workshop ‘Recycling know-how’. Find out everything you needed to know about recycling

Where: Community Care Centre, Raymond Terrace

The winner will be drawn 5pm Friday 14 August, 2009
