Media Release - Soldiers Point Bowling Club supports Sports StarLast modified: July 30, 2009 - 1:45 PM
Today, Port Stephens Council is proud to announce Soldiers Point Bowling Club as the major sponsor of the 2009 Port Stephens Sports Star Awards.
The awards night, to be held on 5 November recognises local sporting heroes and people who make significant contribution to sport in Port Stephens.
Speaking today, Port Stephens Mayor Cr Bruce MacKenzie was pleased with Soldiers Point Bowling Club’s decision to sponsor the event. "It’s this sort of community partnership that helps Council deliver the best possible outcomes for the community," he said. "Now that Soldiers Point has jumped on board we can put on a really great event for our local sporting heroes." Soldiers Point Bowling Club will donate $5,000 in-kind sponsorship and will also host the presentation night. Club President Jim Richardson said it was important for the club to invest in the awards, in particular the Sports Star Junior Development Scheme.
"The scheme is designed to ease the financial burden of talented young athletes," he said. "Without the scheme, disadvantaged kids wouldn’t be given the chance to reach their full sporting potential," Mr Richardson said. Nominations for the Sports Star awards are now open and close 30 September 2009.
