Pollution can be harmful to the people in Port Stephens and to our environment.

Reporting Pollution

If the pollution is an immediate threat to a person or property, such as a large chemical spill call 000.

For less serious incidents, concerns should first be raised with the person responsible for the source of the pollution.

The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage lists specific organisations to contact for air, chemical and radiation, environmental, motor vehicle, waste, little and noise pollution.

What is Council's role?

We play a role in the environmental management, regulation and education of pollution. Council is responsible for enforcing the legislation relating to pollution incidents under the Protection of the Environmental Operations Act 1997.

The NSW Environmental Protection Authority is responsible for major pollution incidents.
