Council is a member of the Lower Hunter Bush Fire Management Committee (BFMC), which consists of representatives of land management and emergency service organisations within the region.

This committee is responsible for developing and coordinating fire management strategies for the whole of the Port Stephens Local Government Area. One of the primary roles of the BFMC is to produce a Lower Hunter Bush Fire Risk Management Plan to guide fire management activities within this area.

The Lower Hunter Bush Fire Risk Management Plan can be found on the Rural Fire Service website.

The NSW Rural Fire Service provides current information regarding:

  • advice on protecting your property and other fire related safety information; and
