Last modified: November 10, 2009 - 8:45 AM

What is accepted in your annual green waste collection and when is it?

Residential properties of Port Stephens Council receive an annual green waste pick up service.

This is usually in the second 6 months of the year.

You will be notified of the clean up via a flyer in the mail a few weeks prior to the collection.

The flyer attached below shows 2009 pickup dates.

Guidelines for your green waste pick up:

  • Small loose material must be placed in sturdy cardboard boxes
  • Only household waste will be collected
  • Branches must be no longer than 1.8 metres and must be bundled and tied
  • Material placed in plastic bags will NOT be collected
  • Place your waste on your kerbside the Sunday prior to your collection date. Fines may be received for placing waste on the kerbside prior to this date.
  • Your waste will be collected any time during the week of your collection, but only once

If your green waste was not collected during your specified period please check that your waste met the above requirements. If it does not, it is your responsibility to remove the waste from the kerbside. If it meets the above requirements please contact our Customer Service Centre on 4987 7997.

Green Waste drop-off at Waste Transfer Stations

If you have green waste to dispose of at other times throughout the year there are alternative drop-off options available to you.

Smaller quantities of green waste should be placed in your red-lidded garbage bin. This waste is taken to the Bedminster plant for composting.

Alternatively, if you have a large quantity of green waste you can drop this off Council's Salamander Bay Waste Transfer Station or the privayely operated waste facility at Newline Road, Raymond Terrace.
