Environmental Education - Our Goal is to achieve an environmentally aware community that participates in the conservation of the local environment, and for schools to integrate environmental education into school programs and activities.

Port Stephens Schools Environment Program

This program aims to:

  • Promote and encourage student participation in environmental education and related projects;
  • Recognise the work of schools in environmental conservation and improvement;
  • Strengthen partnerships between schools, the local community, local business and Port Stephens Council; and
    Increase awareness of environmental issues facing Australia for the benefit of this generation and future generation.

Port Stephens Council has a range of services and resources available to schools, all you need to do is contact us and we will work with you.  Have a look at the new "What Council can offer schools" brochure to find out more.

Schools Environmental Awards

The Port Stephens Schools Environmental Awards Program is a great way for schools to showcase their environmental achievements.  The awards are open for any activities, programs and projects undertaken to meet the outcomes of the Human Society and its Environment Syllabus.  These can be either in school grounds, in the classroom or in the community.

The awards can recognise those schools just starting their environmental activities or those with projects well underway.

Application Forms for the 2009 Schools Environmental Awards will be posted on this web page later in the year.

Schools Environmental Grants

This program offers schools in the Port Stephens Local Government Area funding assistance for environmental related projects and activities.  Normally, up to $300 is available to all schools in a yearly basis.  However, until the end of June 2009, $500 is available to each school for environmental projects and activities.

Schools can apply anytime throughout the year, just fill in the Application Form below and return to Council's Environmental Education Officer.
