Koala Habitat

Last modified: October 12, 2007 - 12:17 AM

Koalas are classified as a vulnerable and rare species.

In order to implement measures to protect koalas and their habitat, Port Stephens Council and the Australian Koala Foundation developed the Port Stephens Council Comprehensive Koala Plan of Management (CKPoM).

The identification of koala habitat within the Port Stephens LGA involved the combination of field-based survey and community based survey data, and vegetation mapping.

The Koala Habitat Planning Map provides the basis for identifying the areas that warrant the highest level of habitat protection.
