Water

Port Stephens Council monitors the quality of waterways throughout the local government area as part of the Clean Waterways Program.

There are a number of objectives to this monitoring:

  • Protect public health by monitoring recreational water quality
  • Increase the quantity and quality of baseline data of estuarine health
  • Identify pollution sources and strategies to improve the health of our waterways
  • Present water quality information in a format that can be easily understood by the community

Tilligerry Creek - Published: 28 Oct 2009
The Tilligerry Creek catchment covers around 10,000ha of largely sandy low lying land crossed by hundreds of kilometres of open drains and natural watercourses.  Tilligerry Creek is also home to a significant portion of Port Stephens oyster industry which is worth $2.4million each year. more ..

Tilligerry Creek Advisory Committee - Published: 13 Sep 2007
To ensure all sectors of the community have input into the implementation of the Catchment Management Plan, Port Stephens Council has established a Tilligerry Creek Advisory Committee.

Membership in this committee gives individuals the opportunity to be directly involved in the improvement of the Tilligerry Catchment and provides an important feedback link to the wider community.

The implementation of the Tilligerry Creek Management Plan is everybodies responsibility.
