Port Stephens is a thriving community with great diversity. Although often perceived as a wealthy tourist and retirement destination, the area has a broad range of residents from different socio-economic backgrounds. It is an area that attracts both families with children and older residents. Port Stephens has a population of approximately 1400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as identified in the 2001 Census. The Census measured the population at 56,680 persons, a number that swells possibly as much as three times during the holiday periods. |
